The early signs of pregnancy

By Saphy last modified 08/12/2005
The start of pregnancy is determined by the apparition of signs, perhaps assisted by medical investigations to establish if a woman is pregnant or not. In most of the cases the pregnancy is obvious but sometimes women experiment signs of pregnancy without being pregnant or don’t have any signs although they are pregnant. There are some general signs that could mean that a woman is expecting a baby, but women should also take a pregnancy test to be certain.

No menstruation - this is one of the classical signs of pregnancy. Adult women have regular menstruation and its delay could mean that they are pregnant. There could be a light bleeding if you are pregnant but it’s not like a normal menstruation. Women shouldn’t automatically think that if their menstruation is delayed they are pregnant, because there are other dysfunctions that could cause the absence of menstruation, such as: excessive effort, thyroid dysfunction, pills which contain hormones, contraceptives, anorexia, etc.

Breast volume increases - Breasts are more voluminous and more sensitive when women are pregnant. Also their areola color changes as they get prepared for breast feeding.

Weight gain - due to food cravings and development of the child a woman gains weight during the pregnancy. If you have other signs of pregnancy and you gain weight it’s very probable you are pregnant.
