Early Signs of Delivery

By Negut Andreea last modified 08/12/2005
Going into labor can be the most frightening experience for any woman especially for those giving birth to their first child. Most women know when this starts by instinct, others due to powerful contractions but some may not clearly understand when they go into labor .The thing that starts labor is unknown but scientists think it’s a substance that triggers the contractions of the uterus. One of the things suggested is that labor is a combined result of more than one factors, such as the placenta or the baby itself and these signs can appear either months before giving birth or a couple of hours before. The qualified doctor can decide when these signs really mean that birth is imminent but a woman can also look for some signs herself if she isn’t near a doctor:

-Women who are experiencing their first birth usually feel the baby descending into the right position 2 to 4 weeks prior to birth. However this doesn’t happen usually at the second or third birth.

-Stomach aches and cramps are common occurrences during the second or later birth.

-Women stop gaining weight in the 9-Th month and some women actually loose weight during the same period.

-Some women feel deeply exhausted throughout the day while others have massive energy boosts; most women start a cleaning spree that is associated with “nesting”, the preparation for the arrival of the baby.

-Vaginal flows may increase.
